Cheap gel pens fail in one of two ways: the tip skips, or the barrel is so light that handwriting drifts. A metal barrel fixes the second problem and a needle tip mostly fixes the first.
Writing with them
Quick-dry ink means a left-handed writer can move down a page without dragging a hand through the last line. On thin paper, expect a little show-through.
Refilling
Unscrew the barrel at the grip and swap the cartridge. Store pens tip-down if one has been sitting unused for a few weeks.
