Hard enamel is polished flat after firing, so the colour sits level with the metal lines instead of sinking below them. It costs more than soft enamel and it is the reason these do not chip in a pocket.
Using them
The swivel clasp means a bag charm does not twist itself into a knot. Split rings rather than open jump rings, so nothing works its way loose.
